As part of the Media & Management mentorship pathway with The Magenta Project, I had the opportunity to join the media team at the 45th edition of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta – one of the Caribbean’s most iconic sailing events that blends world-class yacht racing with local culture and “serious fun.”
Commissioned by Search Magazine, I produced two full-length feature articles (a preview and a final report), alongside daily reels and social coverage throughout the four-day event. The brief emphasised moving image storytelling, so I delivered dynamic Instagram content in real time, capturing both racing highlights and the regatta’s vibrant atmosphere onshore.
Working in a high-pressure, fast-paced media environment, I collaborated with an international team to plan, capture, and deliver editorial and visual content to editorial and social platforms under tight daily deadlines. From riding chase boats to onboard reporting in squalls, and from interviewing skippers to attending nighttime prize-givings, this was a full-spectrum media production experience.
More than just reporting, the project offered deep insight into the inner workings of event marketing and media operations at scale – blending editorial strategy with visual storytelling, logistics, brand integration, and audience engagement. It sharpened my ability to pivot quickly, collaborate with agility, and stay focused under pressure.
The experience reinforced my passion for working at the intersection of sailing, media, and marketing, and left me with a broader network, and a renewed drive to bring stories from the water to global audiences.
The reporting reached 100k people on searchmagazine.com, over 10,9k on Instagram and 4k people on Facebook (and still counting).
